Position Overview
The Band Manager & Coach provides administrative, logistical, and musical support for the Music & Dance School's youth band program, currently consisting of three concert bands.
Working closely with the Director of ISO at Third Street, conductors, coaches, production staff, students, and families, the Band Manager & Coach helps ensure that rehearsals, auditions, and performances operate smoothly and efficiently. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Band Manager & Coach serves as a sectional coach on their primary instrument.
The Band Manager & Coach supervises the band coaching staff and serves as the primary operational contact for the band program.
This is a part-time position requiring regular evening and weekend availability during rehearsals, auditions, and performances.
Band Schedule
The Band Manager & Coach supports the following ensembles:
• Concert Band (Tuesday, 3:45 PM-4:45 PM)
• Symphonic Band (Tuesday, 4:45 PM-6:45 PM)
• Prelude Band (Wednesday, 4:00 PM-5:00 PM)
Regular attendance at rehearsals is expected. The Band Manager & Coach works collaboratively with conductors and the Director of ISO at Third Street to determine an appropriate rehearsal attendance schedule that supports all band programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Rehearsal and Performance Operations
• Attend rehearsals, auditions, dress rehearsals, and performances as assigned.
• Oversee rehearsal setup and breakdown, including coordination of chairs, stands, percussion equipment, and other materials needed for rehearsal.
• Coordinate rehearsal setup assistance from students, coaches, and production staff as appropriate.
• Serve as on-site band manager during rehearsals and performances.
• Assist with student check-in and attendance tracking.
• Communicate rehearsal and performance logistics to students and families as directed.
Music Library Management
• Print, organize, distribute, and collect ensemble music.
• Maintain band folders and music inventories.
• Maintain backup copies of all band music.
• Coordinate music purchases and rentals as directed.
• Track and return rented music materials.
Program Administration
• Maintain current student and family contact information.
• Take attendance at rehearsals and performances.
• Identify students who are not registered and coordinate follow-up with Student Services.
• Track attendance concerns and communicate them to the Director of ISO at Third Street.
• Collect repertoire, roster, and program information from conductors.
• Assist with preparation of concert materials and ensemble rosters.
Production Coordination
• Collaborate with conductors to develop stage plots for rehearsals and performances.
• Submit stage plots and production needs to the Assistant Director of Production and Director of ISO at Third Street.
• Confirm equipment, instrument, percussion, and equipment transportation needs for rehearsals and performances.
• Coordinate logistical needs with production staff.
Personnel Coordination
• Assist conductors and the Director of ISO at Third Street in identifying substitute musicians and ringers.
• Coordinate scheduling and communication with substitute musicians and guest performers.
• Supervise and support band coaches.
• Coordinate coach assignments and rehearsal coverage.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for band coaches.
• Provide feedback and recommendations regarding coach hiring, onboarding, and evaluation to the Director of ISO at Third Street.
Coaching Responsibilities
• Serve as a sectional coach on primary instrument.
• Provide musical support to students during rehearsals and sectionals.
• Assist conductors in achieving artistic and educational goals for each ensemble.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or related field preferred.
• Experience teaching, coaching, conducting, or managing youth bands.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, and staff.
• Availability for evening and weekend rehearsals and performances.
