POSITION OVERVIEW
Third Street Music School seeks a passionate and imaginative part-time music instructor to teach Wednesday Ukulele and Guitar lessons and group classes for the 2025-2026 school year. The instructor will provide engaging instruction to students from preschool to adult, in both individual and small group formats. This day includes teaching Meet the Ukulele classes for ages 3–5 and small group ukulele classes for children ages 5 and up. Additional opportunities for individual guitar and ukulele lessons may be available.
We are looking for an educator who brings not only excellence but also joy, curiosity, and a deep understanding of how children learn. The ideal candidate combines a strong foundation in guitar and ukulele pedagogy with the rich toolkit of an experienced early childhood educator. This instructor would bring a strong sense of creativity in order to foster a love of music through playful and developmentally appropriate instruction. This is an in-person, part-time position on Wednesdays. Instruction takes place weekly throughout the 32-week school year with the option of continuing summer instruction as needs arise.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Provide engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction to individual and small group guitar and ukulele students, ages 3 through adult individual lesson learners.
- Monitor and assess students’ progress, offering clear feedback and setting meaningful annual goals
- Advise and support students and families in other Third Street Music program-related activities and long-term developmental goals.
- Prepare students for performance opportunities within the Third Street music community and outside school opportunities
- Attend all required performance sand recitals, and participate in department meetings
- Engage in the overall work and mission of Third Street
- Contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment
- Collaborate with the Third Street registrar in scheduling and communication of lessons and classes
- Attention to punctuality, attendance records, and reports as requested
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree or certification in music, music education, early childhood, or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum of 2 years teaching applied guitar and/or ukulele lessons in a private studio, community music school, or public-school setting
- Minimum of 1 year working with young children ages 3-5 in a private studio, music school, public school, early childhood center or caregiver setting.
- Deep understanding of child development and best practices in early music education
- Comfortable working with students of varying ages and skill levels, and experienced in diverse musical styles
- Able to consistently work in-person Wednesday afternoons and early evenings
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in arts education
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students and families
