Student Services & DEI Associate
The Student Services & DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Associate is a member of the Student Services team and serves as a key point of contact for students, families, and the public, maintains communication with faculty to ensure accurate data collection and reporting, enters time and attendance, and performs general administrative duties in support of the goals of the Student Services Department
The associate is also the point person on Third Street’s DEI activities, ensuring that the work moves forward according to stated goals and timeframes. The associate manages internal and external DEI resources, and plays a role in identifying and addressing opportunities to further Third Street’s DEI work on an ongoing basis.

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND: As the nation’s longest-running community music school, Third Street Music School has been transforming lives through the arts for 130 years. In 1894, Third Street was founded by Emilie Wagner, an arts education pioneer who made music education the cornerstone of a settlement house that welcomed immigrants to NYC and provided families with housing support, food, and medical care alongside arts enrichment. Today, Third Street is committed to leveraging arts education to empower youth to reach their fullest potential and unite the diverse communities of NYC. Student Services Duties
- Maintain communication with music and dance school faculty to ensure accurate reporting
- Draft/edit written communications to music and dance faculty
- Collect and maintain faculty data to track availability and scheduling
- Assist families as needed: respond to preliminary inquiries, serve as point of entry and guide through the registration process
- Process student enrollment and assist with casework (phone calls and data gathering)
- Input and maintain student information in database
- Participate in response to customer service queries and issues
- Input attendance and payroll data and run related reports (payroll summary/spreadsheet, missed lesson report)
- Run database queries and preliminary reports
- Provide clerical and administrative office support
- Relieve receptionist for breaks
- Coordinate Task Force and Board DEI Committee meetings
- Schedule DEI-related meetings, trainings, professional development for faculty and staff
- Edit and draft DEI related internal and external communications
- Support efforts to bring diversity and inclusion into all program areas
- Collaborate with marketing department to identify recommend and manage DEI content on promotional materials.
- Ensure proper data management of DEI related information (metrics, tracking, reporting)
- Maintain communication and knowledge sharing, including updating documentation where applicable
- Identify and collaborate on new initiatives and opportunities to enhance the experience of Third Street as a place where all are welcome, differences are celebrated, and achievement is recognized
- Serve as point person for planning and presenting Third Street Cultural Celebrations Series (connect with performing groups, set calendar, budget)
- Bachelor’s degree or relative experience
- Strong customer service experience and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, to listen to and engage people of various backgrounds and to maintain a professional demeanor at all times
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to set priorities and manage competing demands
- Ability to draft and edit correspondence
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
- DEI background preferred
- Chinese dialect and/or Spanish speaker a plus
- Previous office experience preferred
- Fluency in mandarin or Cantonese a plus
